“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was greater than the risk it took to bloom.”

Flourish is not a place where we come to be at the top of our game all of the time. This is a place to play, explore, practice, fall down, get back up, and start again. It is a space and a community that fosters truth, authenticity, safety, courage, vulnerability, and love. The point of life is not to live only in the happy times. Flourish is when we learn to dance through the storms. Life is ever-changing, like our bodies, and the best we can do is learn to ground ourselves in Truth, in Love, so that we have a foundation from which we will Flourish in our lives.
To create a space where we can gather with a common goal – to help encourage, support, and love ourselves & one another without fear or judgment. To flourish in health and wellness, and to live the lives we dream of – the lives we are worthy of living.
I feel so blessed to have (and continue to have) so many wonderful experiences; each of which has given me the tools to navigate life in a way that feels more authentic to me. The tricky part is reflecting on them in deep gratitude without this seeming like a choppy check-list!
I grew up here, between Knoxville and Pleasantville. I graduated from Pleasantville High, then earned my BA in Health Promotion from the University of Iowa in Iowa City. I moved to Seattle for a year of AmeriCorps – an amazing year – then I returned to Des Moines and joined the corporate world… which I discovered wasn’t my thing. It was at that time, through a conversation with a massage student, that I realized the value of human touch and how lacking it is in our society today. So, after only one massage, a Google search, and a few phone calls, I sold my stuff, packed my bags, and hopped on a plane to Hawaii!
I spent more than a year there studying massage therapy and working as a barista… and, of course, enjoying the island life. After graduating, I felt pulled to San Francisco where a wonderful woman took a chance on a recent graduate & offered me a job at a beautiful spa. Then, a road trip landed me in Durango, CO where I worked in another wonderful day spa. It was there that I would embark on my life’s true journey: Motherhood! I was blessed with the love of my life – my daughter! I moved back to Iowa for a few years to be nurtured and bask in the love of family. Eventually, it was time to explore again and we moved to Encinitas, CA where I found my home at Bella D’ora day spa & the Soul of Yoga. Here, I found a new kind of family and had a most profound life experience: a 200-hour yoga teacher training. This was much more than a ‘yoga training’ and it truly helped transform me; bringing me closer to my Truth. I really love California and my family there but, I felt it was time to bring what I had learned and experienced back here to share it with all of you: with those who have encouraged and supported me, given me roots and wings, and loved me unconditionally through it all, and with those whom I have not yet met. Life continues to unfold in a most beautiful and unexpected way & I am forever grateful. Now, I let go of the rope, push off from the shore, allow & trust in the journey with a heart full of love and gratitude!
I love to travel, see new places, and to meet new people. I love learning, teaching, & sharing stories. I believe that the powers of compassion, forgiveness, humility, the human touch, healthy food, and personal responsibility will change the world for the better and the time is now!:)
